Sustainability is at the heart of ELVA BLAU. All pearls are sourced second-hand, and most of the silver and fine pewter used is recycled and comes from small German suppliers. We consciously avoid supporting large manufacturers or breeders to minimize environmental impact. We source our materials with a strong focus on sustainability. Most of the pearls, gemstones, and metals we use are secondhand or recycled. When we do buy new materials, we ensure that they come from suppliers committed to responsible practices, like those certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).

Beyond sourcing recycled materials, ELVA BLAU’s entire production process is designed with sustainability in mind. From using eco-friendly suppliers to minimizing waste, every step aligns with our commitment to reducing environmental impact.

Silver Jewellery Care

Tarnish Prevention: Silver can tarnish quickly when left in a humid atmosphere for extended periods and not worn. To counteract this, a proprietary Silver Dip is highly effective in removing oxidation—simply follow the instructions on the product.

Shine Restoration: A silver polishing cloth is a useful tool to bring back the high shine. However, be cautious of strong chemicals like bleach, which can lead to tarnishing and even blackening of silver, especially in the presence of sulfur.

Manual Labor Precautions: Silver is not a particularly hard metal. If you plan to engage in manual labor activities where rings may come into contact with abrasive materials such as stone or bricks, it's advisable to remove them.

Pearl Jewellery Care

Handle with Care: Finer pewter items require careful handling as pewter is soft and malleable. Avoid harsh treatment, as the metal can deform when treated heavily.

Storage and Temperatures: Keep pewter away from high heat sources, and avoid storing it in overheated environments, such as attics or storage facilities.

Avoid Twisting and Bending: Pewter is a relatively soft metal and does not tolerate repetitive twisting and bending well. This can lead to the development of weak spots and metal fatigue.

One remarkable advantage of fine pewter is its affordability. If some of the chunky pieces we are selling were made from sterling silver, the cost of each piece would be significantly higher. Fine pewter allows us to offer high-quality jewellery at fair and accessible prices. In cases where a ring or another piece may deform under significant stress against the metal, it's easily manageable to restore the original shape. The key is to wear them thoughtfully and prevent such situations from occurring in the first place. 

Please be aware that in certain conditions, such as wearing heavy pendants on a silver necklace in hot weather, small pewter particles on the pendant's loop may become dislodged. This can occur due to continuous friction caused by the chain and the effects of heat. In some instances, you may notice minor pewter streaks on your skin as a result. These streaks, however, can be easily removed with water and do not leave any stains or marks behind

• Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight

• Rotate your pieces to distribute wear

• Gently wipe jewellery to remove dust and oils, using dishwashing soap and warm water

• Remove jewellery when engaging in activities that could scratch or damage it. Be mindful of your everyday activities when selecting your jewellery. Avoid wearing it during strenuous physical activities, swimming, gardening, or any task that exposes it to repeated knocks or scratches

• Take off your jewellery at bedtime

• Protect against chemicals, particularly chlorine

• Bathe/Shower and apply lotions or perfumes before wearing jewellery

• Store jewellery separately in a soft-lined box or case to prevent tangling, rubbing, or scratching

• Minimize the risk of friction by refraining from sliding your pendant along its chain or by wearing multiple rings on a single finger

• Be sure to thoroughly dry your jewellery, removing any residual moisture or debris that it may have come into contact with. Moisture and contaminants can accumulate, potentially affecting your jewellery’s shine and condition.
  The most critical consideration is the risk of losing gemstones due to loose settings when exposed to moisture. Water can exacerbate the issue, leading to gemstones becoming dislodged or slipping away
